Zurich AI Festival 2026

ETH Zürich, a SocialVids client

The brief
Themed Trusted Intelligence, the festival brings together researchers, founders, investors and the public across the Greater Zurich region. It needed content that shows, during the week, what people at the events are actually talking about.
What we did
A two-person crew covered 11 events in 5 days, with short on-camera interviews filmed right where the conversations happened, cut into vertical and horizontal videos.
The result
The videos went out on the festival's official LinkedIn while the festival week was still running. An aftermovie is on the way.

Behind the camera

Tomáš Berka with a crew member, setting up cameras on a shoot

Skilled with people, kind on set.

Tomáš Berka started as a YouTuber in 2013, out of passion. Today his work rests on knowing both worlds, behind the camera and in front of it: getting a strong idea across in as little time as possible, and using picture and sound to show what people want to show, whether that is a process, an idea or a product. Most recently he co-created the Zurich AI Festival 2026 videos for ETH Zürich, produced by SocialVids. He hosts in English and Czech, and he knows how to make a researcher sound like themselves, not like their slides. He films as a set team with Martin Kimla and SocialVids (socialvids.cz), so the same crew handles a single interview or a multi-day shoot.

How we work

Prepared, coached, ready to post.

Most people are not comfortable on camera. The work happens before the camera rolls.

  1. 1

    Prepare

We read the project or the paper and agree a few plain-language questions for each person. You approve the plan and the price.

  2. 2

    Coach

Tomáš is skilled with people and kind on set. He prepares everyone on site. No script, no teleprompter.

  3. 3

    Film

At your institute, lab, meeting or event. A small crew and little disruption to the day.

  4. 4

    Deliver

Captioned videos in the formats you need, ready to post. You publish them from your own channels.

Questions

Questions we get asked

Who do you work with?

Universities and research institutes, startups and investors, innovation agencies and regions, R&D teams in companies, grant-funded projects and foundations. See who we work with.

Can you film our founder for investors?

Yes. We keep it honest: the problem, the product working, the evidence. Investors see through staging.

Do you also make company or organisation films?

Yes, when the story is carried by your people. We do not make voice-over adverts.

Can the videos go into our annual or impact report?

Yes. We deliver a film plus short chapters with captions that sit next to the written report.

Can we pay for this from our project budget?

Usually, yes, if it is planned. Depending on how the task is described, video is budgeted as a purchase under 'other goods, works and services' (which also counts toward the 25% indirect-cost base) or as a subcontracted task set out in the proposal (table 3.1g in lump-sum grants). An unplanned subcontract can be approved later, but at the project's own risk. Ask us for a ready-to-paste budget justification; your coordinator or project officer has the final word.

We're writing a proposal. Can you help?

Yes. We send a costed paragraph for your communication work package: scope, price and budget category, ready to paste in.

Our researchers are not comfortable on camera.

Most aren't. Tomáš is patient and kind with people on camera: we agree a few plain-language questions per person, coach before every take and never ask anyone to read a script.

Will you get the science right?

We read the paper or project summary first, and the researcher approves the wording of captions and post copy before anything is published.

Do you follow the EU visibility rules?

Yes. Where the work is EU-funded, videos carry the EU emblem and the funding statement, placed the way the guidance asks.

Can you film at our consortium meeting abroad?

Yes. We're based in Prague and film across Europe. Travel is included in the quote.

What equipment do you use?

Cinema cameras, professional lighting and broadcast-grade audio. We bring everything and set up in a couple of hours.

Do you publish for us?

No. You publish from your project, institute or personal profiles. We deliver everything ready to post, plus a reporting sheet.

What about consent and GDPR?

The agreement is with your organisation, for the whole project. Each person agrees on camera before the interview, and we keep that recording as proof.

Who owns the footage, and can we use it for recruiting or fundraising?

The licence for your channels is in the contract. Wider use is agreed upfront.
